Man Gets Arrested for Threatening to Kill J.D. Vance

(MENAFN) An individual from Ohio has been formally charged with making threats against US Vice President J.D. Vance, the Department of Justice revealed on Friday.

The suspect, Shannon Mathre from Toledo, was apprehended by US Secret Service officers on February 6 for “making a threat to take the life of, and to inflict bodily harm upon, a successor to the presidency,” according to the DOJ.

Authorities reported that Mathre issued the threats in advance of a scheduled trip by the vice president to Ohio.

The indictment states that Mathre declared he would monitor Vance’s movements and planned to use an M14 rifle to carry out the attack.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche noted that the arrest also uncovered Mathre’s possession of child sexual abuse material.

If found guilty, Mathre could face a maximum of five years behind bars for the threat, while the charge related to child sexual abuse material carries a possible 20-year sentence.

Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized, “Our attorneys are vigorously prosecuting this disgusting threat against Vice President Vance.”
